At Deerfield Family Dentistry it’s our hope that all our patients (and everyone!) be proud to show off their pearly whites! If you’re seeking options to improving the sparkle of your teeth, veneers are a great way to improve the overall look of your smile! Veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the fronts of your existing teeth. Placing veneers can cover stained teeth, cracked teeth, spaces between teeth, chipped teeth, misaligned teeth and more. If you’re curious about how veneers can improve the look of your smile, Dr. Pike will happily consult with you to answers any questions you have.
If you and Dr. Pike have decided that veneers will work to achieve your sparkling smile goals, the veneer application process take 2-3 visits. In the first visit, you and Dr. Pike will discuss the new shape and look of what you’d like to accomplish by placing veneers. Once the plan is in place, the existing teeth will be prepared for the placement of the new veneers. An impression will be taken of the teeth and the veneers will be fabricated to custom fit your smile. The creation of your unique veneers takes about 2 weeks. When the custom veneers arrive they will be bonded to your teeth. It’s our goal to ensure your new teeth feel and look as natural as your own smile. At Deerfield Family Dentistry we want you to enjoy your new smile for a very long time!
Dentures are replacement teeth that can restore your mouth to its full constitution based on any tooth or teeth loss you have had. By the age 35 about 60% of the U.S. population has lost a permanent tooth and generally about 19% of the population over the age of 40 has partial or full dentures. At Deerfield Family Dentistry we want you to have the best process to connect your mouth back to a full smile. Partial Dentures are generally used when 3 or more teeth are missing or damaged in a row to restore the strength that that area of your mouth and Full Dentures are used when a large portion of teeth are missing. Dr. Pike and her team consider the 3 different types of dentures at our office.
There are 3 different types of dentures; conventional, immediate, and overdenture. When a tooth has lost most of its strength and constitution the healing process can take multiple mouths to close the space where the tooth once was. Conventional dentures are placed in your mouth after the tissue has fully healed. In immediate denture creation Dr. Pike will take a full mold of your mouth to place the denture on immediately after so you won’t have to be missing a tooth during the healing process. The downside of immediate dentures is they require multiple relines and re-fits to accommodate your newly reformed gum. Overdentures are similar to implants in that they fit over your natural teeth to preserve the original structure of your jaw. Regardless of what type Dr. Pike chooses, you will be happy with your full and happy smile for the rest of your life.
Our teeth age as we do and over time they become more susceptible to decay, cracking, discoloration and more. If filling or bonding isn’t enough to repair damaged teeth, crowns are a great way to recover your smile. Crowns will support the existing tooth and ensure no other problems can develop. Dr. Pike can help you decide whether crowns are an appropriate option for restoring your smile. Once the decision to place crowns has been made the whole process will be completed in two visits to the Deerfield Family Dentistry office.
Crowns are made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. A porcelain finished crown can be matched to the shade of your other teeth and offers the most natural feel and look. At your first visit, the tooth receiving the crown will be filed down so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given a local anesthetic before this part of the procedure so you will not experience any discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth and the surrounding teeth. The mold will be used to create your custom crown. Before leaving, Dr. Pike will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.
Once your unique crown arrives (2-3 weeks) you’ll visit the office again to have the permanent crown cemented in place. Crowns are durable and will keep your smile sparkling for 10-15 years. Crowns should be cared for as if they were any of your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing. Treat your teeth like royalty, with crown restoration at Deerfield Family Dentistry. If you are missing one or more teeth a bridge may be the best option to replace the missing teeth. When a bridge is created, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth will be used as anchors for the bridge that will extend across the gap. Bridges are strong and durable, made from gold, metal or porcelain. Before the procedure takes place, Dr. Pike will take a mold of the area so that a personalized bridge piece can be created to fit as close and comfortably to your natural teeth as possible.
While we wait for your custom bridge to arrive you will be fitted with a temporary bridge. The temporary bridge will protect the anchor teeth and the exposed gum areas. It will also look more appealing than having a missing tooth. Once the custom permanent bridge arrives it will be set in place and adhered to the anchor teeth. It may take a little while to get used to the bridge, but after a few days it will feel like you have your own teeth back again! After a short phase of eating only soft foods you will be able to eat whatever your heart desires with no problems!
If missing teeth are keeping you from enjoying life’s simple pleasures make an appointment at Deerfield Family Dentistry to discuss your options and we’ll help you find a solution best suited to your needs.
White Fillings & Bonding
White fillings can drastically improve the look of your smile. At Deerfield Family Dentistry we offer white fillings as an alternative to, or to replace old silver amalgam fillings. Replacing old silver fillings with white fillings is a simple process that will instantly brighten your smile. The white fillings will be matched to the natural color of your existing teeth. Both bonding and white fillings are safe, affordable and appealing solutions to brightening your smile.
If your teeth have cracks, gaps or if your teeth are stained or discolored, bonding is a simple and easy method to enhance the overall sparkle of your smile. The bonding process begins with applying an adhesive gel on the affected tooth or teeth. Then a composite resin is molded and sculpted over the adhesive gel. After the resin has been applied, an ultraviolet light will set and harden the resin. Then the resin is polished, giving your smile a new sparkle.
