Crowns – Crown Your Teeth

Our teeth age as we do and over time they become more susceptible to decay, cracking, discoloration and more. If filling or bonding isn’t enough to repair damaged teeth, crowns are a great way to recover your smile. Crowns will support the existing tooth and ensure no other problems can develop. Dr. Pike can help you decide whether crowns are an appropriate option for restoring your smile. Once the decision to place crowns has been made the whole process will be completed in two visits to the Deerfield Family Dentistry office.

Crowns are made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. A porcelain finished crown can be matched to the shade of your other teeth and offers the most natural feel and look.  At your first visit, the tooth receiving the crown will be filed down so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given a local anesthetic before this part of the procedure so you will not experience any discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth and the surrounding teeth. The mold will be used to create your custom crown. Before leaving, Dr. Pike will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.

Once your unique crown arrives (2-3 weeks) you’ll visit the office again to have the permanent crown cemented in place. Crowns are durable and will keep your smile sparkling for 10-15 years. Crowns should be cared for as if they were any of your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing. Treat your teeth like royalty, with crown restoration at Deerfield Family Dentistry. Bridges – Build a New Bridge

If you are missing one or more teeth a bridge may be the best option to replace the missing teeth. When a bridge is created, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth will be used as anchors for the bridge that will extend across the gap. Bridges are strong and durable, made from gold, metal or porcelain. Before the procedure takes place, Dr. Pike will take a mold of the area so that a personalized bridge piece can be created to fit as close and comfortably to your natural teeth as possible.

While we wait for your custom bridge to arrive you will be fitted with a temporary bridge. The temporary bridge will protect the anchor teeth and the exposed gum areas. It will also look more appealing than having a missing tooth. Once the custom permanent bridge arrives it will be set in place and adhered to the anchor teeth. It may take a little while to get used to the bridge, but after a few days it will feel like you have your own teeth back again! After a short phase of eating only soft foods you will be able to eat whatever your heart desires with no problems!

If missing teeth are keeping you from enjoying life’s simple pleasures make an appointment at Deerfield Family Dentistry to discuss your options and we’ll help you find a solution best suited to your needs.
